Katie Taylor has beaten Finland’s Mira Potkonen in the last 16 stage of the World Boxing Championships in Korea.
The Bray lightweight beat the Finn on a unanimous decision (40-36,40-36,39-37) to advance to Friday’s quarter-final against Sofya Ochigava, who she beat in the final at the Olympics in London two years ago.
Michaela Walsh was beaten on a split decision by Anna Alimardanova of Azerbaijan.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport after the fight, Taylor said: "I boxed that girl two times before and it’s always been [tough] like that. It always kind of turns into a war so the victories are always hard fought.
"She came to win, she’s always up for the challenge.
"I think everyone thinks they can outfight me but I’m always the one that comes out on top of these battles. I don’t think anyone is as fit as me."
