Butterflies are flying insect with large scaly wings. Like all insect, butterflies have six jointed legs, three body part, a pair antennae, compound eyes, and an exoskeleton. The three body part are the head, thorax (the chest), and abdomen (the tail end). their body is covered by tiny sensory hair. They have four wings. Their wings and the six legs are attached to the thorax. The Thorax contains the muscle that make the legs and wings move
Butterflies are very good fliers. They have two pairs of large wings covered with colorful, iridescent scales in overlapping rows. They can only fly if their body temperature is above 86 degrees. Butterflies sun themselves to warm up in cool weather. As butterflies age, the color of the wings faded and the wings become ragged.
Butterflies and Moths Undergo complete metamorphosis in which they go through four different life stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Most butterflies live on nectar from flower. Some butterflies sip the liquid from rotting fruit and a rare prefer rotting animal flesh or animal fluids. Butterflies are around all over the world and in types of environments: hot and cold, dry and moist, at sea level and high in the mountains. However, most butterfly species are found in tropical areas, especially tropical rain forest.
