Induction of ministers into the cabinet and redistribution of portfolios to others are aimed at bringing dynamism in the activities of the government, prime minister Sheikh Hasina said on Saturday.

She, however, mentioned that the cabinet reshuffle is a normal activity in a parliamentary form of government.

“Distribution of portfolios among the cabinet members is the jurisdiction of the head of the government. We may bring such changes from time to time," UNB quoted the prime minister as saying.

“But it's not a big deal...This is a regular practice," Sheikh Hasina told newsmen after she hosted a reception to the people of all strata at her official residence Ganabhaban.

This is her first public statement on the issue after a new minister and two state ministers sworn in and two other state ministers were elevated to the rank of minister last week. Moreover, Syed Ashraful Islam was first stripped off portfolio of LGRD and cooperatives ministry and then given the charge of public administration ministry.

The prime minister claimed that the people had been able to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr peacefully with zeal due to just steps taken by the government.

The prime minister’s son Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter-in-law (Jo0y’s wife) Christina Overmeyer, her daughter Saima Islam Wazed, son-in-law (Saima’s husband) Khandker Masrur Hossain, her grandsons and granddaughters and other members of the family were present on the occasion.
