Calamansi (Calamondin )
Calamondin is called by many names like calamonding. calamondin orange, golden lime. kalamunding, kalamansi, Philippine lime, Panama orange, Chinese orange, musk orange and acid orange. It is formerly identified as Citrus mitis Blanco which is referred to as a Citrus. Lately it has been given the Citrofortunella mitis by J. Ingram and H.E. Moore.
It is widely cultivated in the Philippines and is known as calamansi and it is available all year round. The fruit is sour. It is used for cooking and it is great for making sauce for steamed, fried fish and sometimes grilled pork. Just mixed the juice of calamansi with soy sauce and chopped onions. There's that tangy, salty, sweet mixture of sauce.
Calamansi is also best in making fruit juice. I prefer cold calamansi juice with honey during summer. It is also a best cure for common colds. Hot calamansi juice when you have the common colds will make you feel a lot better. It is packed with Vitamin C.
Calamansi is also used as an alternative medicine. When rubbed on insect bites the juice is said to reduce the itching and relieved the irritation. It also acts as anti- inflammatory. Calamansi has many uses, it can also be used to remove stains on clothes, just rubbed the juice on the stained cloth. Then laundry the cloth with fabric soap and rinse. With its so many uses it has a very high demand in the market. I guess everybody in the Philippines uses calamansi.
