Four decades have passed since the bilateral cooperation between India and Canada in the sector of uranium supply to India was frozen over India's nuclear programme in 1974. There were initiatives from both the countries for the last two years to come to a definite conclusion and to maintain steady supply of uranium to energy-hungry India so that the energy crisis is solved to some extent. Finally Canada on Wednesday has agreed to supply 3,000 metric tonnes of uranium to India from this year under a $254 million five-year deal to power Indian atomic reactors.
