is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates. She was the third member of the crew and the second to join, doing so during the Orange Town Arc. Later, she left and betrayed the crew during the Baratie Arc, but rejoined at the end of the Arlong Park Arc, after her past and true intentions were revealed. She have a current bounty of 16,000,000.
She is based on Ann and Silk, two characters from Oda's previous manga Romance Dawn. She is introduced as a thief and pickpocket who possesses skills to tell the climate and draw sea charts. At first, she is a subordinate of the fishman Arlong, but she is eventually freed of this service and permanently joins Monkey D. Luffy for her dream to write the complete map of the Grand Line. She is the first main character to appear in the anime series (excluding the intro). Despite her initial distrust of pirates, Nami eventually changes her mind after being around Luffy and the rest of the crew. Nami is depicted as an intelligent girl who has an obsession of obtaining money. She is able to use her three-sectioned staff and use her climate skills to create powerful attacks; the most prominent of these staff weapons is the Clima-Tact, in which she manipulates the climate to create weather-based attacks.
Here we would talk about the real origin of the Strawhat Pirates beautiful navigator: Cat Burglar Nami.
In Nami’s backstory, it was revealed that Nami and her foster sister Nojiko was adopted by a former marine officer named Bellemere, they were initially found by Bellemere on an island where they was supposed to perish. It was never mentioned where Nami‘s real family came from, let me tell you not where or what her family was, but where her lineage came from.
I Guess Cat Burglar Nami, got Skypiean blood.
Remember, I am not implying in any way that Nami came directly from Skypiea, but I believe that some point in the series, Nami’s lineage of being part-Skypiean would be revealed. Nami was a very talented navigator and cartographer, but this is what i like to point out, Nami’s mapmaking skills are due to her being interested in it and studying it, but “her navigational skills is a natural” to her. She can read the movements of skies and clouds, in effect the wind movement and the weather. I think this is a big subtle hint that Nami being able to read sky movements is her unconsciously homing to the Sky Islands. And her ability to read weather is Nami being unaware of her special Observation Haki. I believe Nami is one of the few characters in the series to unlock special variation of Observation Haki.
(sorry coz some of here are spoilers for the I-want-anime-only)
1. Ussop – his Observation Haki is to see people’s aura.
2. Nami - her Haki is to exactly predict the weather.
3. Enel – ability to hear and sense people’s presence.
4. Coby – ability to hear and sense people’s feelings, life force, thoughts and intention. I believe this is the strongest form when Coby unlocks its full potential.
5. Aisa – ability to sense and hear life force and vague identity.
Also, Nami being able to use the waver in an instant appeared to me as her subconsciously being comfortable to his homeland, Skypiea. And another hint is probably Nami being sent to Weatheria, another Sky Island, in order to learn more knowledge on reading and using weather as a means of fighting and navigating. And do you guys know that Nami and her tattoo all play part in her origin and abilities?
Nami in japanese means “wave” which relates to her being a navigator, the pinwheel tatto is “kazaguruma” which is used to catch winds. And “mikan” literally means “seed of heaven”, instead of “orange” when you translate “mi” and “kan” separately.
Nami is a “seed of heaven”? Maybe.
*Due to her past, Nami sees money as a freedom. Freedom to live your life the way you want to.
