Chinese soldiers hold group wedding to celebrate army day

A group of 88 soldiers tied the knot with their loved ones on Friday in Dongguan city, south China’s Guangdong Province, to celebrate the 88th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), which falls on August 1.

Many of the newlywed soldiers, including armed police and firefighters, were stationed in frontier islands or worked in mobile forces, and didn’t have an opportunity to have a wedding, said media reports.

In August 1927, armed forces led by the Communist Party of China held an uprising against warlords. The first day of August was later designated as China’s Army Day.
