Hello guys! I would like to share that i am finisht The GoodReads Challenge 2018. It is an incredible reading journey because i have much progress compare than the last year. My reading speed increase, more English vocabulary, and have a better understanding of the stories. I think it is a good time to try something new, which is writing a book review. The other reason why I am writing a book review is as a response from the Haraka challenge to review the non-spoiler book.
She challenges me to review the City of Fallen Angels. To be honest i feel odds when she chooses this book. First, City of Fallen Angels is the urban fantasy. To be honest, i feel intimidated since this genre not my cup of tea. It has the multiple perspective, the character driven, and has strong intangible behind meaning. That is totally different with my last book taste, the general fiction. Usually, it has the first person writing style and action drive. In my opinion, reading and writing a fantasy book review is very challenging.
Secondly, this is the fourth book of the Mortal Instrument Series. Seriously, i wonder how the newbie like me review it without tempting spoiled the previous series. However, show must go on. Here we go and enjoy!
Synopsis
On the last series, it focused on Clary journey to save her mother from the mysterious kidnapper. Along the way, Clary and Simon Lewis, her best friend, found the odd connection between her mom and the shadowhunter, a secret race of human born with the angel blood. They are hidden from the human world and keep protecting them from the demon for more than thousand years. This is how she meets Jace, Isabele, and Alec, the young shadowhunter . Together, they are digging clary mother past history. And turn out, she keeps her secret for the good reason.

Meanwhile, at City of Fallen Angels we will found out after the last war, Clary thought she has a bit peace because she is official become the shadowhunter trainee and finally able to call Jace as her boyfriend. However, she keeps surrounding with the odds situation like her Jace, having a nightmare of killing her constantly. On the other side, someone wanting the Simon Lewis to be defeated. Also, the Lightwood sibling must swallow the bitter truth about their family ugly secret. Both of them feel the emotional rollercoaster and Its become more complicated for Alec because of someone in the past might be damage his love life.

World Building
On the last series, you will get the hint about the shadowhunter world living side to side with the downworlder - the supernatural being and the hybrid creatures on the shadow world. Simply said, they are part of human and demon.
At City Fallen Angels, the origin of the vampire and the politics become the main highlight here. We are heard more about how the vampire transform, human subjugates theory and political drama between two stronger clans.

Also, at The city of fallen angels finally introduce the Iron Sister, a female private organization. Iron sister is one of the ancient organization that exist almost a thousand years. They are an independent organization who forging, creating, design and repairing weapon for the shadowhunter.

Overall, I am enjoy the world building development on this series. In my opinion, added more portion on vampire will reach out more supernatural reader fans. Also, even though I am less interested in politic, but Cassandra Clare writing style helps me to digest these topics easier. Another plus point, by introduce the Iron Sister will sending the good moral message to young readers to embrace her girl power, intelligence, wit, determination, and independence.
Magic System
What can shadowhunter do without magic? At the city of fallen angels, we are still found the rune, portal, glamour, and many more. Also, on City of fallen angels, Clary and Simon magic ability become stronger, dark, and even a bit creepy. That not suprise their magic will be playing a significant role in this series. Sadly speaking, Warlock magic has less exposure to this series. Warlock is the downworlder that has a specialty to perform magic. I might be bias but without warloc magic, the magic element on this series is a little bit plain.

Characters
We are still meet the old characters. Like Clary, we can see her stubbornness and sense of the sense of loyalty to family and friends. However, she less impulsive and cleaver when to press and placing issue to others. Meanwhile, Simon facing crisis identity which is leading him one or two poor decision. On the other side, we will see the vulnerable side of Isabele Lightwood. It is refreshing since she often looks sassy, playful, and smart badass woman in each series.

The City of Fallen angels also highlights the relationship, Clary and Jace. Also, Alec Lightwood and his lover. Even though they have a sweet and growing relationship, but still they must face it more challenge. For example, Clary cannot help feeling left out due to Jace distance behavior. Meanwhile, Alec lightwood takes risky gambling that will potential damaging their relationship. This is so out of character of Alec which is he usually taking safe and secure calculation almost into anything.

Well, for me their relationship upside and down is the peak point of this series. Its deep, sweet, but be prepared you are getting more frustrating it because of the constant struggle Just slightly complain a bit, I missed how Alec and his lover expressing their love in funny, comical, and somehow looks ridiculous. On The City of Fallen Angels, they both almost serious and tight.
Yes! it is frustrating to see how the characters struggling but overall, I have enjoyed their character development. Also, with the new characters from the vampire and werewolf clan, makes the characters more dynamic.
Overall, I like the city of fallen angels develops a new context. If only these series put more the magic element as much as the others, I am happy to give the five stars. So, I am decided to give our star to city of Fallen Angels.
