Nepal's 19th-century old nine-storied Dharhara tower in the heart of the capital collapsed yesterday after the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal and has been reduced to just its base. There were then hundreds of visitors on it who had come to see the panoramic views of the Kathmandu valley from the top of the minaret. With the collapse of the 50.5-metre-high historic tower, hundreds of visitors were trapped under its debris. As a result many had died. It is reported that at least 180 bodies have been retrieved from the rubble so far and several people were still trapped under the debris.
