College students should consider freelancing

Getting experience in your field is the main goal for any college student. One way this can be done is doing internships. In addition, to doing internships, college students should strongly consider freelancing as another option of getting experience in their field of choice. If you are in education (tutoring), communications/english related majors (blogging, freelance public relations consultant, freelance photography), music majors (live performances) freelancing will be easy for you.

Is This For Me

Many students wait until they have gotten into their major and decide to change their future career. If you begin freelancing your freshman or sophomore year of college, you can easily decide if freelancing is for you. For example, communications related majors that plan to concentrate in print journalism can dabble in freelance writing.

Paid Professional

When most students graduate college, they have only had internships. If you are a successful freelancer in college you can use your freelance work as a portfolio when you graduate and you officially begin your career. With this being said, this will put you ahead of the competition, if your work is good.

Extra Money

As a college student, I had no money, for the most part. Personally, I wished I would have become a freelancer in college and earned money online.

Could Become a Career

Many college graduates, graduate and have trouble finding employment in their field; if you begin freelancing in college you could work it into a career. This definitely beats sitting on the couch and surfing the web for a job.

In closing, as a student, you may be paid less for your work. However, the experience will outweigh the pay you receive.
