Конструкція Complex Object – складний додаток, використовується для перекладу українських складнопідрядних речень.
- Я хочу, щоб ви прочитали цей роман.
- Я хотів би, щоб вона більше розповіла мені про події минулого тижня.
- Я бачила, як вони виходили з офісу.
Як бачимо, в українській мові це все СПР. В англійській мові всі ці речення необхідно перекладати за допомогою конструкції Complex Object, яка складається:
Complex Object Verb + Object (noun/me, you, them, us, him, her, it) + to/to inf/ Ving
Таким чином, попередні приклади перекладемо:
- I want you to read this novel.
- I’d like her to tell me more about last week’s events.
- I saw them leaving the office.
Отже, в українській мові використовуються підрядні речення, що починаються сполучниками що, щоб, як.
To + Infinitive
- Mother wants me to get good marks at school.
- We know him to speak Spanish well.
- I know her to be a good student.
- Would you like me to help you with Math?
- The teacher expected the students to hand in the tests at once.
- I like you to smile.
- I would prefer you to return home by taxi. It’s late.
To + Infinitive
- Після make (примушувати), let (дозволяти)
- Після дієслів фізичного сприйняття
- Don’t make me drink milk, I hate it!
- In my childhood my parents made me study to play the piano.
- Let the children play in the park, the weather is wonderful.
- Don’t let her go there alone, she may get lost.
+ to infinitive / Ving
- to infinitive: дія повністю завершена (що зробив? – дієслово доконаного виду)
- Ving: дія в процесі виконання ( що робить? – дієслово недоконаного виду)

- Я бачила, як він перейшов вулицю.
- Я бачила, як він переходить вулицю.
- Я бачила, як він перейшов вулицю, повернув за кут будинку та зник.

- We saw her crossing the river.
- I felt somebody touch my shoulder.
- I didn’t notice him put the letter on the table.
- At the zoo we often watched monkeys playing in their cage.
- I often hear him playing the violin in his room.
