The BNP leader was 'picked up' from party headquarters by detective police four days ago and taken to a Dhaka hospital. He sneaked out of there early on Wednesday and then spoke to reporters at his Gulshan home.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is still confined in her Gulshan office, which police cordoned off  on Saturday night . They repeatedly stopped her from leaving the premises since then.

Meanwhile, the party's acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was arrested from the National Press Club premises on Tuesday.

Dhaka streets witnessed  normal traffic on Wednesday, but long-haul bus services from the capital remained suspended.

Train and launch services are, however, operating on schedule.
