Curfew – A short film

“Curfew”, won over 40 awards in Film Festivals before winning the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film at the 85th Academy Awards. Heard a lot about it in different social networking sites, so thought of sharing it here.

“Curfew” is Written and Directed by Shawn Christensen

In one of the conversation Shawn Christensen said :

“The idea for “Curfew” began a few years ago, when I struck up a conversation with a nine-year old girl, and then quickly realized that in many ways, she was much smarter than me. Children at that age absorb so much information, and they do it with such an imbued energy, that it can be awe-inspiring. Adults, by far and wide, become jaded as they get older, and I’m no exception. I liked the idea of exploring these two people – a young child full of life, and an adult, who is drained of life but still has an inner child buried somewhere deep inside him…”

In youtube, I could only find the trailer of the movie and it gives me a feeling that the short film is an awesome one. The lead character “Richie”, yes that is the director of the movie has portrayed a character who was at lowest point of his life, Richie gets a call from his estranged sister, asking him to look after his nine-year old niece, Sophia, for a few hours.

Whatever I could get from the trailer, I see that Shawn Christensen has portrayed the character of “Richie” very well and accompanying him Fatima Ptacek, a 9 year old, very cute and innocent girl, who played his niece. The expressions that we see on this little girl’s face is really outstanding, the emotions that each scene carries makes me believe that this short film is way above than any other short film of this genre. Each scene is composed with great care, so taking about this I would say screenplay and cinematography is one of the most important element I feel that played in the success of the movie and also it helped in portraying the story the way it should have been.
