AI has entwined itself into our lives in ways unimaginable a decade ago. Our need for connectivity be it on the phone or social media with our loved ones or with our businesses worldwide has led us to accept AI with arms wide open. You are probably reading this c-blog on your laptop or smartphone which is AI enabled.

For example, we have seen AI providing conversation and comfort to the lonely; we have also seen AI engaging in racial discrimination. Growth Trends in AI

The rapid technological advances and digitalization of consumables we use in daily life has changed the face of the world as we know it. AI is the driving force behind these technological advances, and it has left no sector untouched.

While automation was the name of the game in the period of industrial revolution, we are moving towards data driven solutions in every area of our life. Artificial Intelligence adds human like intelligence to automated tasks.

AI is growing in leaps and bounds as it adapts with progressive learning from the available data. Using this information it functions with incredible intelligence, accuracy and efficiency. We are a bunch of data in the hands of the gadget makers whose smart gadgets we use.  Every moment and move we make right from where we are currently located to what our lifestyle is, is now monitored by these gadgets .

The Impact of Artificial Intelligence and The Ethical issues Involved

There is no doubt that these innovations continue to make make life easier for us. Today with a voice command we could get our shopping done, research information collected or even have a car drive us to our destination. Yet, it is imperative that be aware of what we are compromises we make in the name of comfort. Our privacy, ethical use of personal data and our security may all be questionable with these growing trends.

It is important for us to know and understand the current technological changes happening around us. The race towards growth and technical advancement is always welcome provided they augment our intelligence and skills.

If you taken the time to watch the video (I do acknowledge that it is very long) you would have noticed that every question that was asked about ethics had been fended off saying this is not our area of work. This is something that should greatly concern us, as there seems to be no connectivity between various regulatory system or organizations. This being the case, we still seem to be race blindly in our quest for better life leaving unanswered all the ethical concerns that have been raised over and over again. We seem to believe that we will cross the bridge when we get to it. 

Food For Thought On The Current Advances In The Field of AI

Here are two quotes to prove thinking, you are welcome to reach your own conclusion. I have put them together in a particular order so it makes sense.  One is from a statesman and the other is from an AI professional.

If you can hack some of his weapons systems as well, even better.” - Max Erik Tegmark, physicist and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Final Thoughts

Technological advances in AI is inevitable but what the future holds is not so clear.  While we have no clue where we are headed to we seem to hurtling in some direction at an unstoppable pace. The debate about a AI giving us great future or the fear of being supplanted super intelligent robots may continue to rage but rational thought needs to prevail. We need clear laws, regulatory mechanisms and most of all ethics committees which will monitor the progress AI makes the world over.

The article uses data from a study done by WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) The data for this study comes from the patents filed the world over during the years 2013 -2016. This is the only complete official data that we currently have on growing AI trends. This study could help governments and governing organizations to regulate the industry accordingly. They could possibly work towards helping technology augment our way of life and not take away the meaning of our very existence.
