The Teen International Shorts Festival
February 8th – 11th
The Teen International Shorts Festival has been more of a project towards a common idea than a contest. As the team is preparing for its 8th edition that will take place in Istanbul in a couple of days (8th February – 11th February), we find out at their very explanatory internet site (www.tisfest.org) that the founders of the festival is the organization of Turkish Benefactors Association (TYSD) that was established in 1928 under the name “Society to Help Women in Poverty” in order to support women that had lost their spouses and sons to the war. Today, there are 150 different organizations under the umbrella of TYSD, beneficing education, culture and health. As for the festival, the one and only condition in order to participate is to be older than 13 and younger than 19 years old. ÉCU will be participating with some of its movies this year, like “Conto de Vento” (Portugal), an animation film narrating the story of a young girl who can feel nature in her skin – but eventually people take advantage of her kind soul. Also, “Paths of Hate” (Poland), that describes the catastrophic results of hate seen through warriors experiences, as well as “Puppenspiel” (Austria), a tale about a little girl trying to understand and get through a world that doesn’t make sense to her. What can she do, when all harmony is gone? For the lucky of you who can still catch a flight to Turkey, don’t forget to tell us how it went!
