"Dear Leader" Not so Dear, by Ambassador mo

The "Dear Leader" will be buried in flurry of hyperbole of fake tears and pomp. He was not so good to his people - they feared him from close while the rest of the world was fearful of his eccentricity from afar. Neither was the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea so democratic. Under the Dear Leader, Kim Jong-il, it became more brutal. Food was not adequate to feed the people and famine killed thousands while the Dear Leader lived in perverse luxury enjoying many of the things he deemed too corrupting for his citizens, like Hollywood films. The People's Republic was more the Army's domain - precious resources committed to an expensive nuclear missile weapons race and one of the largest standing armies in the world. The title "Dear Leader" is one of the reasons why I have come to suspect that such hyperbole branding frequently signals the opposite - not much Islamic about the Islamic Republic of Iran or for that matter American Patriot about the "Patriot Act." It was business that may appear to have employed the over the top branding - like "clean coal energy" or "lite beer," but it has been politics and of course war that have taken such to the extreme - "Holy War" - has to be one of the greatest marketing ploys ever, and it works in different languages and with varied versions of the deity set out upon the standard bearer. Which brings me back to North Korea - an atheist country that has come to exalt divine rule, I'm suspicious that the recently lauded "Great Successor" will not be much more than a petty figurehead despot.
