Delhi police to question Mehr Tarar over Sunanda Pushkar death

NEW DELHI: Delhi police will question Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar over the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar — the wife of former Indian minister and former United Nations diplomat Shashi Tharoor, said a report published on The Times of India.

Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in her five-star hotel room in the Indian capital in January 2014, after publicly accusing Tharoor of having an extra-marital affair with Tarar.

Almost a year after her death, police opened a murder investigation earlier in January.

After an autopsy initially concluded Pushkar probably died of an overdose of anti-depressant drugs, Indian police said in Jan that she was poisoned and a case was registered.

"Tarar is a relevant person in the case... If necessary, she will be examined," a report published on NDTV quoted Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi as saying.

An official communique will be issued soon in this regard, Bassi said.
