When choosing fruits and vegetables, look for organic when possible, organic vegetables and fruits will not have been exposed to toxic chemicals. If you are a gardener then you can grow your own vegetables ensuring that they are definitely free from pest control chemicals. Freshly picked vegetables will have a higher nutritional value than vegetables that were picked several days before. Adding fresh herbs will add to the healthful properties of the vegetables so use them liberally. Vary your vegetables and eat plenty of salads and fruits.
Do not cook your vegetables, so much of the necessary nutrients are literally flushed down the drain. If you do wish to cook them then gently steam them or stir fry them for a few minutes until they are just tender when you put a fork through them.
