Dhanushkodi

Dhanushkodi is also known as the ghost city. People are only allowed to explore the town during the day and restricted during the night. It is stated that lord ram had kept its foot here in making of the Ram Sethu. It is to the southern tip of Rameshwaram. Sri Lanka is 29 kms from Dhanushkodi, it is the closest point on the Indian coast to Sri Lanka. During the 1964 cyclone the rail bridge was washed out and the connection between the town and the mainland was hampered, the town suffered a major damage. There are still many ruined things which people come to see. There is myth about it, the cyclone that killed 1800 people just stopped ahead of the rameshwaram temple where people had taken shelter; this was witnessed by some people. Later after this disaster government banned the town for living and later was declared as the ghost town. There are daily tours of jeep from rameshwaram to the ghost town, there you can still see the remains of the railway station, hospitals, post offices and many house. The main attraction you would like to see is the Ram Sethu, building by lord Ram and his Co that connected Sri Lanka.
