"A Good Day to Die Hard" cemented the fact that people love this franchise. Even if the fifth installment is the weakest of the bunch, the film opened strong with a $25 million debut from Friday to Sunday, and $33.2 million if you factor in its Valentine's Day opening Thursday. Bruce Willis returns as John McClane, only this time, he's yipee kay yaying all the way to Russia.

Previous weekend's box-office champ, "Identity Thief" starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman fell to No. 2 with $23.4 million for a box-office total of $70.7 million since it opened.

At No. 3 was the melodramatic "Safe Haven" starring Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel. The Nicholas Sparks adaptation sold $21.4 million worth of box-office tickets and $30.4 since Valentine's Day.

"Escape from Planet Earth," the Weinstein Co. animated tale, debuted at No. 4 with $16.1 million. The alien adventure featured voice work from Brendan Fraser, Jessica Alba, Sarah Jessica Parker and Rob Corddry.

Not doing so well was Warner Bros. "Beautiful Creatures" which cast $7.5 million at the box-office. Starring Alice Englert and Alden Ehrenreich, with supporting work from Jeremy Irons, Emma Thompson, and Viola Davis, "Beautiful Creatures" is the adaptation of the popular Young Adult literature by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.
