Disaster Children

I was walking on a street in Herat City suddenly I noticed a little girl sitting on a piece of stone, wearing very old clothes, she was weeping. I slowly walked into her, kindly put my hand on her shoulder and asked her:

“Why are you crying my dear?”

Before she answers I again asked her:

“What's your name?”

She looked at me with her sad eyes that I could see her tragic story through them and answered:

“Baran.”

I asked her:

“Where is your house?”

She said:

“I have nowhere to go.”

Again I asked:

“Where are your parents?”

Sadness covered all her face, her eyes were weeping like a spring cloud and she started her sorrowful story:

“When I had one year old my father went out for work, but he lost his life in a suicide attack by Taliban. My Mom faced a lot of difficulties raising me; unfortunately a month ago she also died by a heart attack. After that I have been living with my aunt, but she is a very remorseless and cruel woman. She always tortures me…”

Suddenly Baran stop talking and she hid herself behind me. I looked around myself there was an angry woman walking toward us. She hardly slapped Baran and took her with herself. I couldn’t do anything; therefore I just follow them till they entered a house.

It was around evening and I came back home. I was thinking about Baran the whole night. The next day I went to an orphanage and told them about Baran. They agreed to take her to the orphanage and I with two of their stuff went toward Baran’s aunt house. When we arrived there I saw the house door was open and some women were crying. A strange fear came into me and I was hardly walking, finally I asked a woman who was leaning on a wall:

“What is the matter?”

The woman sadly answered:

“Baran died.”

I couldn’t stand on my feet and my eyes were weeping, I sat down. I could neither see nor hear anything. I said:

“How? She was fine yesterday!”

The woman answered:

“Her aunt was trying to take her home but she escaped from her, while running on the street she had an accident with a car and died.”

Yeah! Baran died, but what about the other Barans in my country? Don’t they have the same destiny as Baran had?
