Jerusalem, by virtue of the number and diversity of people who have held it sacred, may be considered the most holy city in the world. The most famous Islamic site in Jerusalem is the Dome of the Rock, which was built by Umayyad Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan. This is a golden dome rising above. An impressive and beautiful edifice, the Dome of the Rock can be seen from all over Jerusalem. It is the crowning glory of the Haram es-Sharif or Temple Mount. The Dome of the Rock is not a mosque, but a Muslim shrine. Like the Kaba in Mecca, it is built over a sacred stone.

This stone is believed to be the place from which the Prophet Muhammad ascended into heaven during his Night Journey to heaven. The Dome of the Rock is the oldest Islamic monument that stands today and certainly one of the most beautiful. It also boasts the oldest surviving mihrab) in the world. The inner part of the building consists of classic Arabic inscription. When we travel to Jerusalem, an individual should visit this location. It is the perfect place to find peace since it is a temple. It is nothing less than heaven on earth.
