Leaders of Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Tuesday said the home minister cannot avoid the liability for the recent killings one after another.
So, the teachers insisted, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal should resign from his cabinet portfolio accepting the liability.
The demand for resignation came from a human chain formed by DUTA leaders at Aparajeya Bangla, to protest against the killing of publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan and attacks on three others on Saturday.
DUTA president Farid Uddin criticised the home minister for his remarks that the killing was an isolated incident and asked what kind of measures he had taken to protect those who received death threats.
“Please be respectful to the people and quit. Otherwise, we will formally demand your resignation next time,” he told the rally.
DUTA general secretary ASM Maksud Kamal referred to the minister’s claim that they had identified the culprits. “But the culprits are yet to be caught. If you can’t do it, please leave your official position,” he added.
Rokayya Hall provost Nazma Shahin, addressing Dipan’s father Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq, said, “Sir, we beg your pardon. We all have failed to protect your son.”
