“Oatmeal is an ideal skin-friendly breakfast food because it is an antioxidant and fiber-rich whole grain that is absorbed slowly, so it doesn't cause the blood sugar spikes that more refined breakfast cereals can,” she says, adding that blood sugar spikes are linked with skin flare-ups.
And when it comes to choosing the right oatmeal, texture – not taste – should be the deciding factor. “Steel cut oats are going to be a better choice [than instant] because they’re a little chewier and the chewier the texture, the less your blood sugar is going to be effected.”
