I started editing video when I was a kid. It wasn't the lovely non-linear systems we have today. I would grab a beta-movie and a VHS machine and went at it, hacking my "works of art" into a degraded, streaky mess. You see, not that long ago, editing machine-to-machine or reel-to-reel had a lasting side- effect. Every new generation of newly edited video that was created would lose quality in the process.
But I'll tell you this, it made you a very good editor. It taught you to make less mistakes, be fast and more precise. It allowed you to complete your videos in minutes rather than hours, days or weeks. Today, I wouldn't give up my NLE for the world!
Happy editing!
