Muslim people in a number of districts in Bangladesh are celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, maintaining conformity with the Eid celebration in Saudi Arabia.
Eid is expected to be celebrated all over Bangladesh on Saturday, subject to moon sight, but the people in some part of the country have long been following the tradition of celebraiting Eid on the same day when Saudi Arabia celebrates.
Prothom Alo district correspondents sent the reports of Eid celebrations in many villages in Moulvibazar, Patuakhali, and Jamalpur on Friday. UNB said Eid-ul-Fitr is also being celebrated in 40 villages in Chandpur district the same day.
Moulvibazar: Almost 100 families took part in the Eid congregation at the terrace of a house named Ahmed Shabista in Circuit House area of the town around 7:15am on Friday. The people completed their prayers while getting wet in the rains.
Patuakhali: Almost 5,000 people took part in Eid Jamaat in Patuakhali. The prayers were held at the Badarpur Darbar Sharif mosque in Sadar upazila of Patuakhali around 10:00am.
Director of Badarpur Darbar Sharif, Muhammad Nazmus Sayadat Akhand said people from Badarpur and Chhoto Bighai of Sadar upazila, Sener Haula, Poshuribunia, Nij Haula and Kankunipara of Golachipa upazila, Madanpura, Shaplakhali, Boga, Dhaurabhanga, Surodi, Sabupara, and Amiradad of Baufal upazila, Lalua, Nishanbari, Morichbunia, North Lalua, Majhipara of Kolapara upazila, Itbaria of Tiakhali, Naiapotti, Badurtali, and Safakhali of Mithaganj union of the town joined the congregation.
Sharishabari: People of Sarishabari in Jamalpur are also celebrating Eif-ul-Fitr on Friday. Almost 400 people from four villages attended the Eid congregation at South Bolardia mosque around 9:30am.
