Bangladesh Muslims are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday with religious fervour and sharing joys with their near and dear ones at home and abroad.
The Eid day has begun with congregations in Eidgahs, mosques and open spaces in cities, small towns and villages across the country.
Despite overnight rains and drizzling in the morning, the devotees took part in the namaj of Eid, mostly in nearby mosques in cities and towns. It was learned that the rural people in many places braved the light rains to offer Eid prayers in large gatherings in their respective areas.
Once the prayers were over, the people are now visiting relatives, friends, neighbours and seniors to share their joys and inquire about their wellbeing.
Ahead of the Eid, most people joined their families - both in rural and urban areas - to celebrate the biggest Muslim festival together. As Eid was celebrated on Friday in some countries where many Bangladeshis live, they called families and shared their joys of Eid on the social media sites.
Eid was also celebrated in 40 villages in Chandpur, 30 villages in Chittagong, nine villages in Dinajpur, and some other places in Moulvibazar, Jamalpur and Patuakhali on Friday in conformity with Saudi Arabia.
Muslims across the country started celebration the moment the moon of the month of Shawal was sighted on Friday evening heralding the end of Ramadan (Ramzan) or the month of dawn-to-dusk fasting.
On Saturday morning, the main Eid congregation in Dhaka city was held at the National Eidgah near the Supreme Court building at 8:30am.
President Abdul Hamid joined the Eid jamaat along with several ministers, state ministers, members of parliament, several judges of the Supreme Court, government officials and senior politicians and also the diplomats of different Muslim countries.
They sought divine blessings, peace and progress for the country and the Muslim Ummah.
Five congregations were held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 7am, 8am, 9am, 10am and 11am. The largest Eid congregation was held at Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj district at 10am with hundreds of thousands of Muslims offering prayers seeking divine blessings, peace and prosperity.
The Eid celebrations will continue for one more day as there are three days of public holiday since the day before the Eid.
