ENERGY AND WATER CONSERVATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF RESOURCES

Posted on at

Energy and water conservation is essential for the efficient management of available water and energy resources and to ensure that adequate supply of water is available for the beneficial uses. It is a tool which will help in meeting the future demand of water and energy for the society.

GENERAL SAVING TIPS

Clean air conditioner frequently because dirty filters will result in the air conditioner working harder which consumes more power.

Maintain comfort temperature rather than extreme temperature.

Zone control for central A/C is the ultimate choice.

Clean fan blades to ensure it works efficiently.

Note:  Do not let water run while  shaving or washing your face. Brush your teeth first while waiting for water to get hot, then wash or shave after filling the basin.

Repair dripping faucets by replacing washers.  If your faucet is dripping at the rate of one drop per  second, you can expect to waste 2,700 gallons per year which will add to the cost of water and sewer utilities, or strain your septic  system.

Electrical appliances such as TVs, PCs  and stereos still use power even when on stand-by, so where possible switch appliances off when they are not in use.

Switch off unwanted lights and open curtains to allow daylight into rooms.

Have a shower instead of a bath. A shower uses 40% of the hot water needed for a bath.

Use a bucket when washing the car, keeping the hose for the final rinse.

Wash your car on the lawn.

Check irrigation systems for leaks. Repair, replace or adjust, as needed.

Let grass grow taller in hot weather.  Use mulch in the garden and around shrubs  to save moisture.

Check the temperature  of your  refrigerator  and set it between 37 and 40 degrees F°.

Stock your refrigerator appropriately because over overload refrigerator use up more energy.

Let food cool before putting in the refrigerator.

Place refrigerator at least 4 inches away from the wall to avoid  over working the motor.

Open refrigerator when necessary.

Make sure you water heater is insulated properly.

Close your windows and outside doors to keep in cool air.

Standard light bulbs  use  up to 90 percent of their energy producing heat, which can make it harder to cool your home. Stay cool by  Switching  to  energy  efficient.

Use  a microwave instead of a conventional oven. It produces  less heat, uses less electricity and cuts down on cooking time.

Turn off kitchen, bath, and other exhaust fans within 20 minutes  after  you are done cooking or bathing; when replacing exhaust fans, consider installing high efficiency, low noise models.

Saving energy should not stop as soon as you are at work. There are just as many  simple ways to save energy in the workplace as there are at home, and you should try and implement your energy saving habits in both environment.

Shut  down your computer at the end of the day, do not just leave it on standby.

Try to minimize the amount of paper you use  to print.

Set your printer up to print on both sides of a sheet of paper.

As at home, only  fill the kettle with as must  water as you need.

Turn off photocopiers and other office equipment before you leave.

Turn off the water when you brush your teeth.

Shorten your showers by one or two minutes.

Fix leaky faucets.

Wash only full loads of laundry.

Note:  Talk to  your family and friends about saving water. If everyone does a  little,  we all benefit a lot, and it is a must factor  for  the progress of humanity.
