The European champions now have a better idea of the challenge that awaits at the Club World Cup in December.
FC Barcelona will play the winners of the quarter final between North American champions Club Amèrica of Mexico and the winner of the Asian Champions League in the semi-final of the Club World Cup to played in Japan from December 10 to 20 later this year.
Club América won the 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League by beating Montreal Impact in the final, while the Asian Champions League is currently at the semi-final stage, with Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Al-Ahli(United Arab Emirates), Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao (China) and Gamba Osaka (Japan) still in contention.
Barça, like Copa Libertadores champions River Plate, enjoy direct passage to the semi-finals. In their first game, the Argentinians will play Auckland City of Oceania, or the Japanese or African champions, who also have yet to be decided.
Luis Enrique’s side will play their semi in Yokohama (17 December), while other one will be in Osaka (16 December).
FC Barcelona was represented at Wednesday’s draw in Zurich by its director of professional sports, Albert Soler, and director of football, Raül Sanllehí.
