Fighting For Something

Watching this video, you can't help to be struck by the youth of the soldiers fighting in the war.  I am so grateful for the willingness and ability of these soldiers to face the most difficult circumstances and still perform at their best during the time of their deployment.

I am always concerned about these young people when they are required to return home and rejoin society.  Do we provide them with the necessary tools to be successful at this process?
Many times it seems like we, as a government, are saying thanks for your service, you are on your own.  Leaving the soldiers themselves, to deal with the inevitable trauma they have seen and the life changing experience that fighting in a war must be.
Perhaps it is time that as part of the deployment, there has to be a mandatory program of counseling for all combat veterans, regardless of rank, if they are returning from the experience of war.
These people were willing to pay the ultimate price of their lives and physical well being for their country.  The least that we should do is show them that we are appreciated by making sure they are taken care of mentally.  They all served and did their duty, we need to treat these heroes with the respect that they deserve.
There are too many reports about soldiers who have returned home, only to snap due to Post Traumatic Stress and commit violent crimes or more often to drop out of society and experience homelessness.  Our soldiers deserve better.
