Film Annex Launches Creative Commons Licensed Web TVs and Donates Ad Revenues to the Organization

NEW YORK, November 2, 2009 - Film Annex, an online film distribution company and web television network, has launched six new web televisions broadcasting Creative Commons licensed content. Film Annex donates a portion of the advertising revenues generated on these Web TVs to Creative Commons in order to support the organization and encourage its growth. The Web TVs utilize the following licenses: Attribution, Attribution Share Alike, Attribution No Derivatives, Attribution Non-Commercial, Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike, and Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives.
In order to encourage content providers to use CC licensing options, Film Annex has also launched CC license support on its platform. The implementation is complete with ccREL (Creative Commons Rights Expression Language) expression via RDFa (Resource Description Framework). With CC licensing options, Film Annex enables its users to choose from six different CC licenses when they upload their work on www.filmannex.com. The uploaded videos will then be automatically shown on the Film Annex Web TV that broadcasts content licensed under the particular CC license selected by its creator.
“Unfortunately, the concept of sharing has long been foreign to many people, companies, and organizations. The lack of sharing inhibits development and change,” said Francesco Rulli, the Founder and President of Film Annex. “Creative Commons enables people to share and develop their work without ignoring the rules of copyright. It is a great resource for content creators who want to educate and entertain their audience, and that’s why it is now an integral part of Film Annex.”
The donated advertising revenues from the CC licensed Web TVs benefit Creative Commons—the organization, however the content providers who present their work on these Web TVs also get their share from the pie. Film Annex creates free Web TVs for content providers with CC licensed work and shares with them the advertising revenues generated on their Web TVs. By presenting their work on the CC licensed Web TVs, content providers not only contribute to the expansion and development of the commons but also get rewarded financially by Film Annex. A list of the CC licensed Web TVs can be found at www.filmannex.com/watch_movies/webtvs.

About Creative Commons
Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that works to increase the amount of creativity (cultural, educational, and scientific content) in “the commons” — the body of work that is available to the public for free and legal sharing, use, repurposing, and remixing. CC provides free, easy-to-use legal tools that give everyone from individual creators to large companies and institutions a simple, standardized way to grant copyright permissions to their creative work. The Creative Commons licenses enable people to easily change their copyright terms from the default of “all rights reserved” to “some rights reserved.” Film Annex supports all 6 Creative Commons licenses, for more information on CC's different licenses, visit this page: creativecommons.org/about/licenses
