Once again, a friend inspired me this week's topic. She's a pianist and wants to be a film composer. And I thought, what an essential but not so well-known job in the film entertainment industry. It is probably easier to name actors and directors than composers. Being interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of movies, I wanted to learn more about them and share my discoveries and thoughts with you!

Howard Shore, Henry Mancini, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, John Williams... Do these names ring a bell? And what if I told you that you've heard their music in 'Star Wars' (J. Williams), 'Inception' (H. Zimmer), 'Lord of the Rings' (H. Shore), 'Batman' (D. Elfman)... Can you hear the music now?

Would you enjoy your favorite movies the same way with a different music? Would you be scared during a typical horror movie scene if the musical background sounded too cheerful? What about an emotional scene with no tearjerkers music? We usually don't pay attention to the film score while watching a movie, and I think this is what makes the background music a success. The music has to become part of the film, almost like another character in the story, so perfect that you can't imagine the movie without it, so well composed that the actors don't have to talk for you to understand the scene.

I learned a lot of composers' names I didn't know before while writing this post and I hope you will too from now on.
