PORT LOUIS (MAURITUS) :

    The government of MAURITUS on monday designated Ameenah Gurib-Fakim as the Indian Ocean island nation's new president, making her the first women to hold the ceremonial position. The appoinment of Ms.Gurib-Fakim(56), an internationally- rewoned scientist and biologist, is subject to parliment approval, due to take place on Thursday. Her inauguration is expected to take place on Friday, official said. -AFP
