Last week's premier of Flash, I geeked out something fierce. You talk about hitting something out of the park your first time out. This pilot nailed it with room to spare. That left me optimistic about this show.
So how did this week compare to the pilot, when the new show smell was off?
Second episodes are nearly as difficult as first episodes. It almost feels like that you're retrending some old ground after the pilot, with some of the obvious being pointed out.
I thought that Flash was pretty good this week. There's always room for things to grow and improve. Smallville took a long time to hit its stride for me and there were always some areas that were weak for me (The Twilight caliber romance being the most glaring thing). Gotham still hasn't gotten out of first gear with me.
Flash on the other hand is showing some promise. The intrigue builds, even if you're not a comic book fan and don't know the score. It adds to things if you do. It's kind of hard to find a happy medium. If you go too far from spoon feeding the obvious, you tend to insult die hard comic book fans. If you go too far in writing for the diehards, then you confuse everyone else.
Flash is nailing it. Hopefully this season will be a wild run. Not as strong as the first episode, but pretty solid.
