Albatern of Scotland is putting a new spin on modular renewable energy generation. WAVENET is a scalable array of floating-generating units "Squid" harvesting wave energy as its floating arms up and down with the movement of the waves. Each Squid can connect to up to three others, creating a large, floating grid that is flexible in all directions. The larger the grid gets, becomes more efficient energy harvesting, and the most diverse movements wave energy can be extracted. For the 10-year-Albatern is to have energy farms 1.25 km long floating pumping up to 100 megawatts by 2024.
How does it work?
Each unit of squid in the WAVENET matrix consists of a pole ballast in the center, surrounded by three floating floats that are connected to the central post office with gun connection. Linking arms connect to the central post with a pump unit completely joint at each end, so that any movement of the arms move as floats in the water makes these pumps to create energy.Floating hydraulic generator flexible energy from waves 22 floating, flexible wave energy generator
Squid units can be connected together in floating points, and have discovered that Albatern construction gives a large matrix "dramatic improvements nonlinear performance."
Imagine a blanket floating point on the surface of the sea - like a wave travels through the blanket, these points are collected, separated and moved individually along X, Y and Z relative to each other - and whenever the points move, they are generating energy.Floating flexible wave energy generator 7 floating power generator flexible waves
Using a common hydrostatic transmission system, hydropower pumped through these units gathered at a central point and converted into electrical energy through a module "PTO" and here electricity can be transmitted to shore.
unique Benefits
Because WaveNet system is configured as a matrix, which is able to extract energy from five of the six degrees of movement of the waves - pitch, roll, heave, surge and sway.
Because it is flexible and connected to the ocean at multiple points, is resistant to damage from high waves because some or all of the matrix can be totally immersed without problem.
And because most of the action takes place underwater, the only visual impact of a WAVENET array is a group of yellow buoys floating, not unlike a flexible farm.Floating mussel wave power generator 2 Floating generator flexible energy waves
extension
Squid Each unit individually in the current test WAVENET coast of Scotland has a 6 meters (20 feet) high pole center ballast, and has a generating capacity of 7.5 kW. The next will come a cover of 12 meters with a capacity of 75 kW, followed by a 24-meter giant squid that can generate up to 750 kW.

Albatern says he can build a 100 megawatt generator WAVENET ten years, using a series of 135 units of 24 meters, with a total area of 1,250 x 250 meters (4,101 x 820 feet). The cost of energy is estimated at 100-150 pounds ($ 160 - $ 235) per MWh, which is higher than other renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power at this stage.
Albatern immediate market sees offshore companies - oil platforms, aquaculture equipment and remote communities that are near a rough sea, but away from other energy sources. But his ultimate goal is to operate large scale operations network within the next 10 years
