Large parts of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal have been submerged following incessant heavy rainfall since Tuesday. Moreover, water has been released from the Teesta barrage which has worsened the situation. Already over 5,000 people have been affected some of whom have been shifted to safe areas. The administration has issued a red alert as the rivers were flowing above the danger mark. Meanwhile, army teams carrying relief equipment, including boats and life jackets, have been deployed since Wednesday in the district.
