In a society obsessed with looking younger and eating healthy, it's shocking to discover that certain eating foods can make us look older. The good news about the discovery is that it provides us with an even greater incentive to eat healthy because it is the unhealthy foods that make us look older. On the flip side, there are a few foods we can eat that actually seem to slow down the outward aging process and keep us looking younger longer.
Sugar Laden Foods
Sweet treats and high carb foods raise our blood glucose level, which in turn increases the creation of advanced glycation and products, aptly called AGES. AGEs take their toll on skin by interfering with the normal repair and rejuvenation of collagen and elastin on the skin, diminishing the skins ability to repair itself and promoting wrinkles.
Inflaming Saturated Fats
Saturated fats are the solid or semi-solid types of fat like that found in marbled beef and full-fat dairy products. What these saturated fats look like in the original form is what they look like in our veins and we have been oft told how sat-fats contribute to heart disease. Now we discover that saturated fats make us look older too. These type of fats not only congeal in our arteries but cause inflammation within our bodies that causes the skin to age at an accelerated rate.
Skin Drying Alcohol
Alcohol dehydrates the body and dries the skin from the inside out. Regular and even semi-regular alcohol drinking will cause skin to be drier and taunter, creating age-telling lines. As the liver metabolizes alcohol, it produces free radicals that also prematurely age skin.
