The Project Girl Performance Collective confronts violence against women, discrimination, sex trafficking, racism, and defends women’s human rights issues at the United Nations. The World Stage is set for Tuesday, March 1 at UN Headquarters, New York, where global leaders will attend the UN Commission of the Status of Women Conference. Lillian Rodriguez, an actress, music performer, and native New Yorker originally from the Bronx, is an integral part of the performance group, Project Girl Performance Collective, a New York City theatre movement with worldwide outreach potential for women 10-21 years of age. Lillian is quickly becoming a fixture at the United Nations. She was recently interviewed at UN TV Studio for Diplomatically Incorrect/Diplomat Artist by Ambassador Muhamed (Mo) Sacirbey & Tom Osborne regarding her upcoming efforts before the United Nations on behalf of women’s rights. Lillian assesses the role of the Arts in Diplomacy, and the Arts as a powerful tool for change and sees herself as an actress/activist. They will be discussing women in technology and science, access to education, globally and locally. We will be talking about women in the work place, how women have to struggle more to get to the same place as men, and be respected, the difficulty and sometimes impossibility of being a working professional and a mom, the negative effect the internet has on the self image of girls... and more pieces are in development.” See: www.lillianrodriguez.com … More on Project Girl Performance Collective … “PGPC's Voices Without Borders will be the featured performance at the United Nations fifty-fifth session of CSW which is the UN's principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. Every year, representatives from over 100 countries gather at United Nations Headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of women worldwide. Project Girl's Voices Without Borders initiative has members of the Project Girl Performance Collective engaged in cross-cultural collaboration with young leaders throughout the world who are creating change in their communities. The objective of this program is to use the performing arts to shed light on conflict areas by collaborating with local NGOs and youth organizations working locally on the ground. In October 2010, PGPC collaborated with the Man Up Campaign to create Project Girl: Congo an evening of theatre, dance, music and activism devised by collective members and youth leaders living and working in Congo. Our production raised awareness of the atrocities of war and rape affecting women in the Congo.” The Communications Director of the UN’s “Man Up Campaign” enlisted the assistance of Project Girl Collective to harness the activism of young people to stop and prevent violence against women and girls. According to the UN Under-Secretary for Humanitarian Affairs, John Holmes, sexual violence in the Congo is the worst in the world. Tens of thousands of women and girls have been sexually abused and raped since 1998. With Project Girl Performance Collective going global, the plight of these victims will be on the radar screen for renewed scrutiny. NGO Project Girl Congo w/ Man Up Campaign.
