Gotham Gives Back: Impact Hub NYC & Givkwik Host GIV.NYC 2015 Celebration
On Giving Tuesday, Nonprofits Compete for $10,000 at Event Connecting Companies, Causes & Communities
NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Dec 1, 2015) - Today is Giving Tuesday, a global holiday in celebration of giving. Giving Tuesday, Live from NYC (GIV.NYC 2015) is a mission-driven event to benefit local nonprofits, happening tonight at Impact Hub NYC, a coworking and events space for social impact. Taking place 7-11 p.m., the event is being organized byGivkwik, a purpose-driven software company, with a mission to connect companies, causes, and communities.
Ten local nonprofits, voted most popular on the organizer's giv.nyc platform, are eligible to receive a $10,000 grand prize. Participants will watch the top ten pitch, in person or online, and then cast a vote for the winners at giv.nyc. People are encouraged to attend the live event as admission fees will be donated to the featured nonprofits. Funded by corporate grants and public donations, along with other grants and in-kind donations, winners will be announced at Impact Hub NYC.
"The event provides an opportunity for Vodafone employees to get involved with non-profits in their local community and help drive social impact through our foundation," says June Sugiyama, Director, Vodafone Americas Foundation.
"Nonprofits work so hard to serve their missions. We wanted to make it easier for more New Yorkers to discover and support them," says Jason Rosado, CEO of Givkwik, which also produced the first-ever premier, live NYC event for Giving Tuesday in 2014.
Held in a salon-style format, GIV.NYC 2015 will facilitate discovery and dialogue across the private, public and nonprofit sectors to inspire support and charitable giving, as part of the broader Giving Tuesday celebration.
"At Impact Hub NYC, we believe that our values should speak through everything we do, the way we work, and the products we buy," says Sam Utne, Managing Director of Impact Hub NYC. "Giving money is a powerful tool to focus on what we care about most. We can 'believe' in a lot of things, but when we only have $20 to give, we are forced to refine our values and be more strategic in our philanthropy."
