What’s disturbing (saddening, even) is that the film purports to accurately reflect the attitudes of contemporary Christians. I also happen to have several friends of different faiths including some who are atheists. And, there s an inspirational quality that comes through as well. While Wheaton sought counsel from a pastor on his decision, he might have done well to consult his Lord who plainly said when He was tempted in the wilderness Her thinking: if Josh gets a poor grade in one class his freshman year, he ll never be able to go to law school, and their future plans will be kaput. In the first two debates, Radisson has counter-arguments for all of Josh s points. Steve Pulaski of Influx Magazine, however, was less critical of the film, giving it a C+ and stating God s Not Dead has issues, many of them easy to spot and heavily distracting. The performers are given the short end of the stick here, though Harper does manage to imbue his resolute college student with a charm and intelligence absent throughout the rest of this film. This is not a matter of many colors; this line of thinking (which can hardly be defined as thinking) is starkly painted in black and white. The acting is inoffensively bland with one notable exception. Radisson reads a letter from his late mother, and is moved to reconcile with Mina. Josh can t do that, so Radisson challenges the coed to prove the existence of God over the course of three classes. I understand that is a Christian film made for a Christian audience, and that its intent wasn’t to leave us with questions about whether God does indeed exist or not, since, for those with faith, the answer to that question is a foregone conclusion. Nick Olszyk of Catholic World Report gave it his highest rating of five reels, calling the film a tremendously entertaining film that leads to God, not in addition to its quality but through its quality.
