The Bangladesh Jewelers Samity (BJS) on Tuesday announced that gold will be traded at Tk 44,521 per 'bhori' (11.66 grams) at the bullion market from Wednesday.
The new price, Tk 1,493 less than the previous one, was reset to keep up with the downtrend of gold price in the global market, the BJS confirmed in a press release on Tuesday.
According to the reset price, 22 carat gold will be traded at Tk 44,521 per bhori, 21 carat at Tk 42,421 and 18 carat at Tk 35,773.
On the other hand, traditional gold will be traded at Tk 24,086 per 'bhori', which was Tk 25,544 till Tuesday, and 21 carat silver (cadmium) will be traded at Tk 1,049 per bhori, which was Tk 1,108.
BJS said 22 carat gold was being traded at Tk 46,014 per bhori till Tuesday whereas 21 carat gold was being traded at Tk 43,841 and 18 carat at Tk 37,266.
Jewelry businessmen said 22 carat contains 91.6 percent of pure gold where as 21 carat contains 87.5 percent and 18 carat contains 75 percent of pure gold.
Asked about the reduction of gold price in the local market, BJS general secretary Enamul Haque Khan said the gold price in the international market has come down to $1160 per ounce from $1200, which has made them reduce the gold price in the local market.
