A group of researchers of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University claim that wearing soft contact lenses at night may prevent children from becoming short-sighted as it re-shapes the eyes. The researchers conducted trials on more than 300 children in Britain and across the world and came to the conclusion. The practice is known as orthokeratology whereby the lenses are worn at night and removed each morning. The lenses control the shape of the eye to ensure it grows in the correct manner so that glasses are never needed. The scientists had observed that none of the children within the study suffered further change in their vision during the three year trial period although vision in all of the control groups rapidly deteriorated. But before coming to any final conclusion, more testing of the lenses are required.
Good news for myopic kids.
