India has been maintaining the polio-free status for the last 4 years. But recently some 208 cases were found in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh with polio-like symptoms. Obviously there was a question mark to the claim of polio-free status. But after investigated by the polio surveillance network which has been set up as per the global guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), it is reported that all these 208 cases in Bareilly are that of the 'acute flaccid paralysis' a condition which presents symptoms similar to polio but the causes are not related to an infection by the polio virus, So, the Health Ministry as well as people of India have heaved a sigh of relief.
