The Narendra Modi -led NDA government in India had launched the Swachh Bharat Mission in October 2014. But if the dreams of a 'Swachh Bharat' are to be realized, rural India must drastically accelerate the pace of building toilets. The latest government data released on this aspect shows that rural sanitation coverage has gone up from 42.05 per cent when a five-year Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) was launched in October 2014, to 49.29 per cent in January 2016. So, the achievement is no doubt great.
