HAPPY LIFE is the first feature by writer/director Michael M. Bilandic and is executive produced by Abel Ferrara (King Of New York, Bad Lieutenant, Go Go Tales, etc.).
Comic Tom McCaffrey (Get Rich or Move Back In With My Dad, Onion News Network, VH1's Best Week Ever, etc.) plays Keith, a thirty-something trance DJ who's going through a major crisis. He’s recently been fired from his residency spinning at an upscale tapas restaurant, and, worse, his specialty record store, New York Tunez, is on its last leg. In a final effort to save both his store and reputation he decides to throw an ‘old school’ rave. Unfortunately, contemporary NYC can be a pretty cutthroat place. Faced with hipster music gatekeepers, an aggressive landlord, a crack smoking headlining act, and a general community that could care less about his party, Keith is forced to face the music; the 2000’s are a far cry from the early ‘90’s. Shot by Sean Williams (Frownland, Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo, Kati With An I) almost entirely in downtown Manhattan, HAPPY LIFE is a comedic portrait of a subculture trying to stay afloat in a changing environment.
