In 1888 , German doctor Friedrich Gauss through the operation of a dog he thrown out half a brain . He wanted to see what kind of psychological and physical changes are born . in 1923 American doctor Walter Dendy performed first Hemisphere operation. we also know him as a Father Of Neurosurgery. he operated a patient suffering from a brain tumor and removed half a brain . The patient lived for three years and then put an end to this cancer . Since this operation is performed on specific patients . But it is one of the most difficult and complex operations .
A side effect of Hemisphere connection seen in 1938 . When Canadian neurosurgeons kenneth Mackenzie operated a sixteen year old girl and removed half of a brain . She was also suffering from epilepsy. After operation she lived happy life and surprisingly after operation she ran out of epilepsy.

Today,doctors perform this operation on all those men and women who are suffering from this and medicines failed to control their epilepsy by the operation they simply remove infected brain parts. Actually, if this medical condition goes out of control , then it can affect the whole brain .That's why they remove affected brain by the operation.There are two types of Hemisphere operations "Anatomical and Functional" In the Anatomical half the brain is removed. And in Functional they just remove affected parts and Corpus callosum.

 

Corpus callosum connects the two parts of brain together.

Anatomical operations are performed in the American John hopkins hospital. necessary thing in operation is to remove whole affected part if not Epilepsy comes back. most of the Functional operation are done in UCLA Medical Center in America.  mostly this type of operation performed on 1 to 10 year old kids. The amazing thing about the Functional operation is that after the operation the patients mental growth is normal.

Moreover , many children get rid of the disease significantly .one of those became U.S. state chess champion . The second was the best bowler in school . The remaining patients academically work excellent.
