On January 12th 1904 Henry Ford set a new land speed record.
Henry Ford had founded the Ford Motor Company on 1903 in Detroit, Michigan. Ford was an inventor and developer of motor cars, and the record gave him some needed publicity for his new company, even though the record only lasted for one month.
Ford himself was driving the car, formerly known as Arrow until a crash in September 1903. He had bought back the car and repaired it, renaming it 999 - a name that had been previously attached to an almost identical, but now retired, vehicle. The 999 reached a speed of 91.37 mph on the frozen surface of Lake St. Clair.
