Oppo’s launching its next high-end cameraphone, here’s what we know so far about it
In a few days Oppo will be launching their next generation cameraphone that will be the successor to their N1 – the N3. We’re actually going to be in Singapore to witness the launch first hand, and while the event is a few days off, we thought it’d be cool to share with you what we know about the upcoming device.
Oppo hasn’t been shy about showing off renders of the N3, so we have an idea what it’ll look like – the top half anyway. The N3, much like the N1 will have a rotating camera that does double duty as both the front and rear camera. The benefits are obvious – you no longer have to rely on a lower-resolution front camera to take selfies – you just have to rotate the camera to the front and take your photos then.
Speaking of the camera, the one on the N3 is expected to have a 16-megapixel sensor. While its megapixel count is a bit low, Oppo’s CEO has said on Chinese social networking site Weibo that the N3 sports a 1/2.3-inch sensor, which trumps the sensor sizes of its competitors like the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 (which both use 1/2.6-inch sensors) and the HTC One M8 and iPhone 6 (which use 1/3-inch sensors).
It also looks like you won’t have to rotate the camera lens of the N3 yourself – GizChina has found footage of the camera sensor rotating by itself via motors inside the phone. Pretty slick.
From the promotional photos that Oppo have released themselves, it also seems like the company will be including a fingerprint scanner on the back of the N3, which replaces the touchpad that was on the same area with the N1.
The N3 is also tipped by the company to have an aluminum frame, which should give the device added strength and rigidity.
From the hardware standpoint, there’s no clear consensus on what the specs are going to be. Some have pegged the N3 to have a 5.5-inch full HD display, while other have said that the N3 would have a 5.9-inch display. It’s the same story when it comes to the processor – some have said that the N3 would have Snapdragon 801 on board, while others point to a faster Snapdragon 805 processor.
