Former New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted Wednesday of first degree murder in the death of Odin Lloyd, who was his fiancees sister's boyfriend. The former All-Pro Hernandez, who commanded a multi-million dollar salary, was a rising top young star in the league.
Lloyd was shot 6 times in the middle of the night on June 17, 2013, in a deserted industrial park near Hernandez's home in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. Prosecutors had a wealth of evidence that Hernandez was with Lloyd at the time he was killed, including home security video from Hernandez's mansion, witness testimony and cell phone records that tracked Lloyd's movements.
Hernandez also faces further legal trouble. He is awaiting trial on murder charges in a drive-by shooting.
