Hidden Gems: The Most Overlooked Museums in New York City

Louis Armstrong House Museum, Corona, Queens

Jazz had its renaissance in Harlem, true. But it lived on 107th Street in Corona, Queens — in the house where Louis Armstrong, the godfather of jazz, spent many years. The house is a bit of a hike into the borough, but it's worth it to get a peek into the past: No one has lived there since Armstrong and his wife, Lucille; and the home's spotless midcentury modern style (with a lovely Japanese garden) has been lovingly preserved. In addition to the home, the exhibition area includes rare photos, recordings, and even personal artwork from Satchmo. Die-hard fans will also love perusing the largest single archive devoted to any one jazz musician
